Take NotesThe movie I'm reviewing today is Richard Linklater's
School of Rock. Rocker Dewey Finn (
Jack Black, Orange County) is fed up. He's been kicked out of his band, and now his long time roommate has threatened to kick him out. What's a guy to do? Pretend he's a substitute teacher in a private school of course! Also starring Joan Cusack (
Where The Heart Is?), and Mike White (
The Good Girl), and introducing Joey Gaydos, Maryam Hassan, Kevin Clark, Rebecca Brown, Robert Tsai, Caitlin Hale, Miranda Cosgrove, Brian Falduto, Zachary Infante, James Hosey, Veronica Afflerbach and Jordan-Claire Green.
I have to start out by saying I really enjoyed this movie. It was a little cheesy, and yes, it was a little cliched, but it was
so fun! My only concern is that Jack Black will take the Eddie Murphy route and do shitty kids movies from now on. It was clear that this movie was inspired by Black, and he was great in it, utilizing his own brand of humor. I think one of things that really made this movie so good was the kids. Each of these kids were great, and could clearly play just as good. I'm sure we will see all of them in the future, in particular Gaydos, Brown, Clark and Cosgrove, each demonstrating an abundance of talent. There were some good laughs, and fun tunes. Definately worth checking out, and hell, maybe even being added to your home dvd collection.
